Premier Performance Safeguarding Policy
1. Introduction
Premier Performance is committed to creating a safe and enjoyable environment for all children and young people participating in our sports coaching programmes. This safeguarding policy outlines our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and the procedures in place to achieve this.
2. Policy Statement
Premier Performance acknowledges its responsibility to safeguard the welfare of all children and young people by protecting them from physical, sexual, and emotional harm, neglect, and bullying. We recognise that the welfare of children is paramount, and we are committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment where children can participate, learn, and develop without fear of harm.
3. Key Principles
- All children and young people have the right to participate in sports activities free from harm or abuse.
- Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, and all staff members, coaches, volunteers, and participants have a duty to report any concerns regarding the welfare of children.
- We will adhere to all relevant legislation, including child protection laws and regulations, and follow best practices outlined by relevant governing bodies.
4. Roles and Responsibilities
4.1. Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO):
- Premier Performance will appoint a Designated Safeguarding Officer who will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of this safeguarding policy.
- The DSO will ensure that all staff members, coaches, and volunteers receive appropriate safeguarding training and support.
4.2. Staff Members, Coaches, and Volunteers:
- All staff members, coaches, and volunteers must undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before working with children.
- Staff members, coaches, and volunteers must receive regular safeguarding training to recognise the signs of abuse, understand reporting procedures, and promote best practices in child protection.
5. Procedures
5.1. Recruitment and Training:
- Premier Performance will ensure that all staff members, coaches, and volunteers are recruited safely, with appropriate background checks and references.
- All staff members, coaches, and volunteers will receive comprehensive safeguarding training upon joining Premier Performance, with regular refresher courses provided.
5.2. Code of Conduct:
- Premier Performance will establish a code of conduct outlining expected behaviour for staff members, coaches, volunteers, and participants.
- The code of conduct will emphasise the importance of respectful and appropriate behaviour towards children and young people at all times.
5.3. Reporting Procedures:
- Any concerns regarding the welfare of a child or young person must be reported immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Officer.
- Premier Performance will follow the appropriate reporting procedures as outlined by local authorities and child protection agencies.
5.4. Confidentiality:
- Premier Performance will handle all safeguarding concerns with sensitivity and confidentiality, sharing information only with relevant parties on a need-to-know basis.
6. Implementation and Review
Premier Performance will ensure that this safeguarding policy is effectively implemented and reviewed annually to reflect changes in legislation, best practices, and organisational needs. Any updates to the policy will be communicated to all staff members, coaches, volunteers, and participants.
